Only ~0.5% of all words are swear words!


Everyone has a different opinion on profanity. Some deplore it. Some seem to curse every other word.
All in all, the idea that some words are inherently more offensive than others - to the extent that people simply won't utter them - is very interesting. In general though, how much to people swear?
Surprisingly, a 3 country study done revealed that Canadians swear more when with their friends than Americans or Britons. Who says Canadians are docile?
And overall, 80-90 words per day are curse words. This is about 0.5% - 0.7% of spoken words. In comparison, first person plural pronouns, such as "us" or "we," make up 1% of spoken words.
