Battleship got started during WWI as a paper game!

Although there is a lot of discussion about how Battleship got started, it's known that it started gaining traction around World War I.
In the 1930s, it was published as a pad-and-pencil game in the 1930s until it was released as a plastic game in 1967.
The original WWI game was called French and called L'Attaque, although there are some that say there was an earlier game called Baslinda played by Russian officers before WWI.
The first commercial version was published in 1931 and called Salvo. There were a few other variations before the Milton Bradley plastic version in the late 60s.
Battleship was also one of the first games to be published as a computer game. And then, of course, there is the 2012 movie "Battleship" based on the game. A true guilty pleasure if I've ever had one.
